Classis Huron of the Christian Reformed Church in North America consists of a family of churches, emerging churches and campus ministries located in south-central Ontario. The churches are located in a geographic area from Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge in the south to Goderich, Owen Sound and Collingwood in the north. It consists of 21 churches, three emerging churches in Cambridge, Kitchener and Fergus, and campus ministries in Waterloo and Guelph.
Organizationally, it meets three times a year – February, May and September – when three representatives from each church [pastor, elder, deacon] as well as representatives from the emerging churches, and campus ministries, come together for the day to conduct the business of Classis. Classis funds ministries that are being carried out on behalf of all of the churches, such as campus ministries and new church plants.
Classis Huron has no central office and no paid staff, aside from a stated clerk and a treasurer who receive modest honoraria to facilitate administrative duties and a Mission Catalyzer.
Between meetings, the work of classis is overseen by the Classis Ministry Committee and an administrative sub-committee.
